Explanation of Spoonstudio Levels Level 1 - Beginner Introduction to basic postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayamas), and relaxation. Students become more aware of/in tune with their whole self (body, mind, soul). They begin to 'calm the mind' reducing stress and tension and typically leave the class with a sense of peace not even noticing that they've also strengthened and stretched some muscles. Level 2 - Beginner continuation of aspects studied in Level 1, focusing more on 'sense withdrawal' and learning more intense asanas. Also repeating basics for a more solid grounding. The firmer the foundation ... the more steady the building. Level 3 - Last section of the Beginner Level. Focusing on making asanas more easy/steady for meditation. Silence is encouraged, more pranayama is introduced, flow is more graceful and at a faster pace while sense withdrawal is enriched/enhanced. Class becomes very meditative and sometimes 'sur-real' as often new doors open in the Student's mind. INTEGRATION - Our 'intermediate' level where the Yogi has completed the first 3 Levels at the Spoonstudio. Basics are well-developed. Some Yoga philosophy/history is occasionally introduced, integrating all we have learned so far to become more 'aware' of not only ourselves, but everything around us. Focusing on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras 2.46-48 "The postures of meditation should embody steadiness & ease. Sthira-sukham-asanam: steadiness, sweetness, posture." Silence during class is essential to get the most out of this level while using background music to inspire calm. Muscles become stronger and even more flexible. Body awareness is very apparent at this stage. Inspiration is often an end result. "Are you looking for an inspiration?" from the song Purple Jess on the Acacia CD
